Our work is practical and close to home. These are the programmes running today — not plans, not promises. They grow as support grows. For what we are building next, see our future plans.
Women's Economic Empowerment
A group of women with disabilities runs two small enterprises: tailoring and liquid-soap production.
The goods they make are sold locally, and the income supports greater independence, new skills, confidence and their families. The group is also a social space — somewhere to belong, not only to work.
Who this is for: women with disabilities in and around Kireka.
What's needed: materials and equipment, buyers for finished products, and skills volunteers.
Shelter & Social Support
Some of the people we support have nowhere safe to live.
KPDDI provides shelter and safe, supportive spaces, alongside everyday community care. We are steadily improving these facilities — safer rooms, better sanitation, improved accessibility — step by step, as support allows.
Who this is for: people with nowhere safe to live, and households that need everyday care.
What's needed: bedding and household basics, renovation support, and community carers.
Food & Essentials
No one learns, works or heals hungry.
KPDDI provides regular food assistance and everyday essentials for households under pressure, distributed through our centre in Kireka — practical help that keeps families steady while longer-term support takes hold.
Who this is for: beneficiary families, elderly people and children connected to our community.
What's needed: food staples, everyday essentials, and helping hands on distribution days.
Help with Education
Disability in a family too often pushes children out of school.
KPDDI helps children connected to our community — including children of beneficiaries — to start and stay in education. Support is small-scale and personal: needs are assessed family by family. Our reading room in Kireka is open to children with and without disabilities.
Who this is for: children of beneficiaries and vulnerable children in our community.
What's needed: school needs and materials, books for the reading room, and reading volunteers.
Income-generating activities
KPDDI runs small income-generating activities, including roadside kiosks and livestock, with ambitions to expand into agriculture and small enterprise. Income from these activities supports our work — part of building an organisation that does not depend on donations alone.
Community Awareness & Inclusion
Stigma excludes people before stairs do.
KPDDI works to change how our community sees disability — through awareness activities, positive stories led by persons with disabilities themselves, and relationships with local schools, employers and leaders.
Who this is for: the whole community — schools, employers, leaders and neighbours.
What's needed: partners for awareness activities and venues, and voices willing to share their stories.
